Ferries
Senja is connected to the Tromsø region in the north by the year‑round ferry between Botnhamn (Senja) and Brensholmen (Sommarøy). This ferry operates daily throughout the entire year.
On the western side, the summer ferry runs between Gryllefjord (Senja) and Andenes (Vesterålen). It operates from mid‑May to late September, with two to three departures per day.
Travelling by ferry is true slow travel. Early and late in the season, traffic is lighter, and arriving at the ferry quay 1–2 hours before departure is usually sufficient. During the high season, you should expect long waiting times, and it is common to miss one or more departures, especially in Gryllefjord.
It is not possible to reserve a spot in advance. Payment is made using an Autopass tag.
