Travel by car

The Senja Region is a unique destination made up of small communities spread across the adventure island of Senja, around the Lenvik Peninsula, and in the surrounding areas, with the small town of Finnsnes as the regional hub. Here you travel through lush villages, farmland, coastal communities and fishing villages, all surrounded by spectacular landscapes. The Senja Region is located in Mid‑Troms, roughly halfway between the cities of Harstad and Tromsø. Finnsnes is located on the mainland and is connected to the island of Senja via the Gisund Bridge.

If you are arriving by car from the north, you can take the year‑round car ferry from Brensholmen on Kvaløya to the village of Botnhamn on Senja. From there, you can continue along the National Scenic Route, which winds its way along the dramatic outer coast, or drive the inner route towards Silsand/Finnsnes along the lush and beautiful Gisundet strait.

In summer, travelling by ferry from beautiful Vesterålen to the adventure island of Senja is very popular. The summer ferry operates between Andenes on Andøya and the fishing village of Gryllefjord on western Senja, from mid‑May to mid‑September. From Gryllefjord, you can follow the National Scenic Route north towards Botnhamn, or drive across the island towards South Senja or Finnsnes.

If you are arriving by car along the E6 highway, turn off towards Finnsnes and Senja at Buktamoen in Målselv.
